The three-row SUV segment has more options than ever. With ample space to accommodate all passengers and plenty of features that make every ride more enjoyable, this type of vehicle is ideal for any growing family. Although models in this class are extremely convenient and versatile, some of them cut down on storage space in order to provide more room for passengers. Some, but not all.
The 2020 Honda Pilot is a popular option in the segment for a reason. This SUV provides roomy seating for up to eight occupants and a well-equipped cabin, while delivering refined ride quality and plenty of power. Unlike other models in the class, this all-rounder offers a third-row seat without compromising cargo space. This way you don’t need to worry about leaving anything behind. The versatility the Pilot features not only helps it compete well in the segment, but it also makes it a worthy alternative to minivans. Do you want to know more about this family-friendly SUV? The 2020 Honda Pilot comes in six trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite and a new range-topping model called Black Edition. All trims get powered by a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine that delivers up to 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. On the LX, EX and EX-L models, this powertrain comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while upgraded trims get a responsive 9-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Front-wheel drive comes standard on most trims, but the Elite and Black Edition models include all-wheel drive. Following the efficiency that defines the Honda lineup, the base Pilot earns an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19 city mpg, 27 highway mpg and 22 combined mpg*. Adding all-wheel drive drops these estimates by 1 mpg.
Inside, the Pilot offers a spacious and practical cabin suited for families of all kinds. Most trim levels come equipped with second- and third-row bench seats that can accommodate up to eight passengers. Upscale models, however, substitute the middle-row bench for two captain's chairs, reducing capacity to seven occupants but adding extra comfort to your rides. As we previously mentioned, the Pilot doesn’t spare in cargo capacity either. When all seats are in place, drivers can make use of 18.5 cubic feet of space in the trunk. By folding down the third-row seats, the cargo area expands to 55.9 cubic feet, and with both rows folded, you will gain up to 109 cubic feet of storage capacity.
Last but not least, the 2020 Pilot has a host of standard driver-assist technologies that provide peace of mind on the road. Key safety features include:
