Sometimes these automobiles are pivotal to the plot, while other times they just make little appearances. Put your trivia caps on and see if you remember any of these cars and trucks.

Five automobiles from scary movies

Ghostbusters

Okay, so maybe this is not technically a “scary” movie, but it remains a Halloween classic. The vehicle our heroic crew of ghostly pest control used to travel around New York, the Ecto-1, was a modified 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor. It was at one point an ambulance and a hearse, which is rather appropriate.

Steven Spielberg’s TV movie thriller about an average, everyday man being terrorized on the desert roads by a faceless truck driver for no reason was made the more frightening by the truck that was used: a 1955 Peterbilt 281 tanker truck. Since you never saw the driver, the truck stood out as the villain.

Christine

Speaking of a vehicle that is a villain, no truer is that the case than with Christine, the titular 1958 Plymouth Fury that had a mind of its own. She both protected and manipulated her driver, and whenever she was damaged, she could put herself right back together again. Scary!

The Car

Another vehicle with a mind of its own (or perhaps a devilish driver—the most devilish one possible) was the customized 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III that ran down residents of a small town in “The Car.” Its appearance alone was enough to strike fear into anyone who saw it approaching.

Evil Dead franchise

This car’s appearance is not so much scary as it is entertaining for its nod to the behind-the-scenes process of filmmaking. Sam Raimi, the director of the original “Evil Dead” films, wanted to give his 1973 Delta Olds 88 cameo appearances in the film. It is Ash the hero’s vehicle of choice.

This is not an exhaustive list, but these are the more notable examples. What are your favorite horror film automobile appearances? Let us know in the comments, and stay in touch with the Honda of Victoria blog for more fun!
