As you may have heard, a new competitor will soon be entering the battle for sedan supremacy: the 2021 Kia K5.
Kia’s new mid-size sedan has a lot to offer, especially when stacked up against some of the top options already on the market. In hopes of illustrating that point, it seemed beneficial to compare the K5 with one of the other top available sedans, the 2021 Honda Accord.
Strap in, because this is where things get interesting.
2021 Honda Accord vs. 2021 Kia K5: A Comparison
It’s easy to see something new and assume it’s better than the old. The 2021 Kia K5 certainly has its appeal as a new entrant into the sedan market, but that doesn’t mean it’s set to immediately overshadow the competition.
Hence, we’ve put it head-to-head with the 2021 Honda Accord, one of the most popular models available.
2021 Honda Accord vs. 2021 Kia K5: Price
In terms of price, there isn’t much to see when it comes to these two exciting mid-size sedans. The redesigned 2021 Honda Accord starts at $24,770 MSRP, while the 2021 Kia K5 starts at $23,490. There’s obviously a small difference there, but not one that should significantly sway your decision.
2021 Honda Accord vs. 2021 Kia K5: Safety/Technology
When it comes to safety and driver-assistance features, it’s hard to ignore any Honda vehicle. The 2021 Accord is no exception, as even the base model comes equipped with Honda’s Sensing suite. That means all of the top modern safety technologies like automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control all come standard.
While the 2021 Kia K5 doesn’t hold back on the standard safety features, it also doesn’t match the Honda Accord. Features like automated emergency braking and lane-keep assist are standard, but many of their other available driver-assist technologies must be paid for.
Both sedans feature a standard 8” infotainment display and larger optional screens, but the Accord’s is more user friendly and intuitive.
2021 Honda Accord vs. 2021 Kia K5: Engine/Performance
It’s true — a beefy motor isn’t often the primary measuring stick when it comes to sedans. However, it doesn’t hurt for your new ride to have some power under the hood.
The 2021 Honda Accord certainly delivers. The standard turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder creates 192 horsepower. There’s also an optional turbocharged 2L four-cylinder that packs 252 horses worth of punch.
As for the 2021 Kia K5, the standard engine is a turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder that boasts 180 horsepower. Like the Accord, the K5 also offers an upgraded 2.5L four-cylinder that creates 290 horsepower, but that comes at a cost at the pumps.
Speaking of gas mileage, the 2021 Honda Accord is estimated to get around 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. As for the 2021 Kia K5, the estimates only come in at about 29 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. Again, not a huge difference but that extra mile or two per gallon can make an impact in the long run.
2021 Honda Accord vs. 2021 Kia K5: The Verdict
There’s plenty to get excited about with both of these new sedans. The 2021 Honda Accord is redesigned with a bold exterior look, safety features galore and excellent fuel economy. The 2021 Kia K5 is new to the sedan game, and lacks some of the standard safety features and technology that Accord brings to the table.
While either would be a welcomed addition to your family’s garage, the 2021 Honda Accord gets the nod as the superior selection.
